Thailand 2017

16 februari 2017 - Chiang Mai, Thailand

Today, after a good night sleep we decided to search for the White Elephant Memorial.

This statue has been erected in honour of the White Elephant who carried a shoulder bone of Boeddha to the mountain above Chiang Mail, the king had decided that when the Elephant would stop walking, that would be the place where a temple should be built.

The Elephant walked up the Doi Suphet mountain and died instantly, therefore the temple has been built on this very spot. We will visit that temple tomorrow.

On our way to the Elephant we passed a school, where they were celebrating the Day of the School, they proposed that we joined the festivities by decorating a muffin, We chose for little Nemo.

The animals were very tasty

On the way back we stopped at the Massage salon runned by ex-prisoners (women jail). Very special.

The women that work there have good posibilities to resocialize due to this project.

Tomorrow more about the 309 steps to the temple.
