Chartres, Tours and Orléans with Anna

11 september 2017 - Prunay-Cassereau, Frankrijk

In the hotel in Cloyes, our bicycles were stored in a courtyard locked with a key. We had some food in a bag that we had left on the bikes, but could not take it once the yard was closed and the man who had waited for us was gone. We found out that no restaurant was open in that village. Next day's breakfast was a real French breakfast, with bread and jam, nothing else. This night was the most expensive night of this holiday, but it felt like being in prison.

Next day the Carrefour express supermarket was open, so we were able to buy new bread, bananas and water for a nice lunch later that day. It did not take long before we decided to have this lunch in a bus stop shelter in the sun, on a quiet country road, with the nice cheese that Anna brought from Holland together with the cucumber from her garden house (see pictures).

That day we had a pleasant ride in the sunshine along the river "Le Loir", not to be confused with La Loire where the nice dry white wine comes from. In the afternoon we had a short stop in Vendôme where we visited an art exhibition in the chapel of St. Jacques.

Still at the end of that day, there were new hills to climb and we couldn't find the campsite mentioned in our guide. We asked around in Amblois, and a lady told us there was a campsite in Prunay-Casserau, so we continued another 5 km and finally found the campsite. It was open, but very small and simple, and it even had a little restaurant. Sadly the restaurant was not open because of a fire caused by an exploded mobile phone...

We explained to the guy that we had not had dinner the day before and we were really looking for some warm nice food today. Nothing else was open in the neighbourhood. In the end his wife cooked the most wonderful dinner for us and they provided us with a good dry white wine to go with it. It was a bit dark in the party tent where we had dinner but it was very cosy with only the flash light on. So with a full belly we went to sleep in our tent.

Next morning, after a warm shower and breakfast with bread and jam from Catherine from Luplanté, and scrambled eggs from a dried food package we had taken with us, we left for our next destination:  the city of Tours.
