Chartres, Tours and Orléans with Anna

9 september 2017 - Luplanté, Frankrijk

Here we are again, with a new story this time, going to France, together with Anna. The plan is to go to Chartres by car and then cycle from Chartres to Tours, following part of the St. Jacob pilgrims cycling path from Haarlem to Santiago de Compostella. From Tours we plan to cycle to Orléans, following an alternative St. Jacob path and finally cycle back to Chartres.
On September 8 at 15.00 we were ready, the bikes and luggage were in Anna's car and off we went.
We expexted to be at Nathalie's place around 22.30. She is, a very kind lady with an Airbnb room in Chartres.
We didn't arrive until 23.30 due to a lot of congestion on the road, and it was raining all the way. Nathalie was kind enough to wait for us and we had a very good night's sleep. Nathalie was so very nice, she even gave us the key of her house to allow us to sleep at her place on the last night of our holiday.
We left Nathalie's house around 12.30 and went to the Cathedral. In the streets around the cathedral, there was a market of old crafts which was very nice. There also was a place where they had reproduced al the old musical instruments represented in the statues in the cathedral. It was all so nice that we didn't start our cycling day until 15.30.
The road was wonderfull on beautiful bike lanes and quiet roads, but also with some climbs. These climbs are difficult to take without electrical support, which I had and Anna hadn't.
After riding for 20 km it started to rain, therefore we decided to look for a place to sleep earlier than planned. There was no camping or guest house in the neighbourhood, so we intended to do some wild camping in Luplanté. Then we had cycled 30 km.
We went straight to the Cityhall, where we found a group of people who were having drinks and were playing cards.
As the Mayor was amongst them, he gave us the authorisation to camp behind the Mairie (cityhall)
After a while, one of the guys (Roger) came to us asking if we wanted to eat with them. They were having a BBQ with meat from their hunts. The Major's wife, Michelle, invited us officially, so we had dinner with them. We also drank a lot of wine, a bit too much, but it was such a nice experience. We talked and ate, sang and danced together.
The next day we cycled 50km, the fantastic evening before gave us wings.
